Finding Books for Your Classroom Library

Classroom libraries are so important! They show your students that you value reading and they provide opportunities for students to find books on their reading level regardless of if the have time to go to the school library or not. I am a new teacher so finding inexpensive books for my classroom library has become my hobby. A few inexpensive places I have found books are:
  1. Used Book Stores
  2. Thirft Stores (some thrift stores can charge up to $1/book but I recently just found one where I can get 6 books for $2.90 so, shop around!)
  3. Yard Sales
  4. Ebay (some sellers sell big lots of books for cheap!)
  5. Scholastic Book Clubs
  6. Library Book Sales- This is my favorite place to find books for my library! I have three public libraries close to me and they have sales every couple of months. They usually sell children's books on Fridays and Saturdays for $0.25 or $0.50. But ....on Sundays it is $1 BAG DAY!! They give you a paper shopping bag and you get all the books you can fit in the bag for $1! AMAZING! At the last sale I got 200+ books for about $5 (its all about how you pack them in the bag!) These books are usually in great condition as well. The site that I use to find book sales in my local area is book sale finder.
If you have any other inexpensive venues to get books for your classroom please leave a comment and let me know. I'm kind of a nerd because this topic really excites me. Enjoy!

OMGoodness! I really wish our library had $1 bag at their book sales! That would be too awesome!

So glad I found your blog! I'm a new follower! Lots of cute ideas! AND - you don't have to bribe me, but I'd love your Splendid Sentences activity...it fits right in with what my 2nd graders are working on!

I am loving your blog!! I am also a third grade teacher, and I love finding other good blogs by intermediate teachers! I also love buying books on ebay or amazon....great and a much more inexpensive way to supply the library! I also try as often as possible to receive books and materials through Donors Choose. Great blog!!
